Nepal's Himalayan herbs and jadibuti — a large natural-products export with real compliance to watch.
Medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) — jadibuti — are gathered and cultivated across Nepal's hills and high mountains and used in herbal, cosmetic and pharmaceutical supply chains.
India is the dominant buyer, with onward demand across Asia. The critical compliance point: many high-value Himalayan species are CITES-listed, so protected-species permits are required — and some species are collection-restricted.
Trade figures are indicative (BACI / UN Comtrade, 2024). For official 8-digit, fiscal-year figures see the Department of Customs and TEPC.
